Privacy Policy

Privacy Practices

As a privacy-conscious, community-formed project, MASQ, (“we”, “us”, “our” or “MASQ”) provides transparent information for users and visitors on it’s website and public documentation.

We’ll NEVER sell or share data from users (each, a “User”) data with anyone, period.

This privacy policy applies to MASQ's websites and subdomains, and all products and services offered by MASQ.

MASQ Network (“protocol”) is a networking protocol that is open source and permissionless, allowing users to participate in the decentralized network routing and encryption services between other users across the world.

MASQ by default does not store information from any MASQ Network users, nor do we keep any logs of visitors to websites hosted by MASQ.

MASQ does not require account sign-ups or any Personal Identifiable Information (PII) to use the software networking protocol (”MASQ Core”, “Node”, “MASQ Browser”, “MASQ Extension”), therefore we are unable to share this information if it does not exist.

User Data Collection

MASQ does not collect, log, or share user data that is transmitted through the MASQ Network, ever - it is fully encrypted from the origin (client/user) and therefore is also impossible to access.

IP Address: No - MASQ does not collect the IP addresses of users.

Privacy-Preserving Analytics - in the mission to preserve user privacy, MASQ utilizes services from Plausible which can provide helpful traffic analytics in a way that does not directly collect any personal data, cookies or personally identifiable information (PII). Discover how this is designed here.

MASQ Network’s Github is open and software users can verify any information needed regarding MASQ Core - the mesh networking transport protocol designed to route encrypted traffic between peers.

MASQ Core will always be open source and transparent, and is licensed under GPLv3:

Third-Party Exposure

  • MASQ uses Brevo (formally SendinBlue) to send newsletter emails, public information, etc so emails provided for those purposes are subject to Brevo’s privacy policy. This is only opt-in communication - you do not have to provide an email to use any MASQ software.

    • If User decides to opt-in to our mailing list, they will receive emails that may include company news, updates, related product or service information, etc. If at any time the User would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, they may do so by contacting us via our Website.

    • Any user information provided such as email address, is not shared with any third-parties.

  • MASQ provides premium front-end (UI) subscription services, that users can opt-in to, which utilize BoomFi or Stripe as a payment processor. Any subscription or identifying information (such as email address or wallet address) provided is subject to BoomFi’s Privacy Policy and TOS or Stripe Privacy Policy . These additional services are optional, and MASQ only references a wallet address and/or email address to facilitate the premium services access on the MASQ Browser or MASQ Extension App.

  • MASQ related websites that are hosted by us, are subject to Framer’s privacy policy - MASQ website maintainers have deactivated all logs and traffic analytics within MASQ’s Framer account services.

  • Websites hosted and maintained by MASQ may use Plausible to provide aggregate data for traffic analytics. This is subject to Plausible’s privacy policy.

  • MASQ software installers and source code is hosted on Amazon Web Services, GitHub, Filebase and/or IPFS to provide a reliable content delivery network - all logging is turned off entirely within all areas of the infrastructure where-ever possible. Those services are subject to the respective company’s privacy policies.

  • MASQ software may contain other third-party components such as wallet and browser extensions that have privacy practices of their own. The MASQ team does significant due diligence to ensure these third-party components observe a high-standard of user privacy practices, but cannot guarantee the practices are the same standard as MASQ, so users should interact with them at their own discretion. Users who use these optional components should reference those software privacy policies.

Community platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Telegram and Discord (and others) may have officially moderated server groups by MASQ, and any information that is posted there by public member users is subject to the privacy policies of those platforms.

Where possible, MASQ volunteers and maintainers will remove posts by users that are visibly sharing such things as user email addresses or wallet addresses - ultimately it is the responsibility of the user to have discretion on these third-party platforms.

MASQ Protocol

The Services of MASQ includes, but is not limited to, the ability to route encrypted internet traffic through a decentralized mesh network, use of the MASQ Protocol including MASQ Network, MASQ software including front-end UI apps, MASQ Nodes, MASQ docker images, and interactions facilitated by the MASQ Token within the protocol. These services aim to enhance user privacy and optimize bandwidth usage across a distributed peer network around the world.

While MASQ strives to maintain the security and integrity of the Service, the nature of decentralized and open-source software means that the system may include vulnerabilities or errors that could be exploited by third parties. MASQ does not guarantee that the Service will be free from such vulnerabilities and is not liable for any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or debts, and expenses arising from such vulnerabilities.

Users acknowledge the inherent risks associated with the use of any decentralized network and agree to assume all related risks.

Service Payments | MASQ

MASQ software and peer networking services available across the MASQ Network protocol has no central entity or service provider. MASQ Node networking software itself is modelled as a peer client-to-server networking communications protocol, with all transmitted data under encryption - any transactions, transfer of value, incentive modelling or exchange for bandwidth are made directly between each user to other anonymous peers entirely, facilitated by the the permissionless nature of the MASQ utility token.

Therefore, users must be aware that we do not facilitate payments for bandwidth or routing services directly, nor provides any guarantee of user services, latency, uptime or reliability, as outlined here and in the software License found on GitHub.

MASQ does facilitate a subscription service for Premium features, which allows users to access broader User Interface (UI) options, enhanced User Experience and utility token airdrops by way of a user defined wallet (this is not required to use MASQ Network, and are visual convenience enhancements only).

Users using the subscription service still route their traffic through thr decentralized MASQ Network of peers, where MASQ itself does not operate the entire Node network, nor does it control or manage all mesh networking parties.

These subscription services do not guarantee the speed and bandwidth of the MASQ Network peers, as they are a distributed network of servers that run independently of the MASQ developers and can vary in location, latency and uptime.
